What insurance issues are there when I hire a nanny?

Unemployment Insurance

Disability Insurance

Many states collect employee disability insurance levies as part of their payroll tax system. Workers Compensation Insurance

Please discuss your insurance needs with an agent licensed in your state. Be very sure the agent understands that you are employing a domestic worker in your private residence. 23 states require that household employers obtain this insurance, you want to make sure you are covered. Your homeowners insurance will generally NOT cover injuries to an employee.


Automobile Insurance

If your nanny drives your personal vehicle, you need to advise your insurance company. Additional coverages may be required, and your nanny's age may effect your rates. Please discuss your insurance needs with an agent licensed in your state.

If your nanny drives YOUR children in HER car, she needs to get business use coverage with her insurance. We do not recommend the nanny use her own vehicle for a variety of reasons, including insurance complications.
